Whatsapp Set to Stop Functioning on Older Mobile Phones Versions; iPhone And Android starting February 1, 2020
Users of older android phones and iphones may lose their chat history and shared media if they are not backed up before losing all data starting today. Months ago, Whatsapp had given warning to its users about the app no longer been supported on iOS and Android devices that are older versions.
The essence of this is to ensure that the instant messaging service safeguards the security of its users.
The affected smartphone versions are iOS 8, Andriod 2.3.7 or older versions. In order for users to continue using the instant messaging service, an upgrade of their smartphones version is necessary. From a statement by a CSS Insight analyst Ben Wood “Whatsapp clearly had no option but to ensure its service remains secure, however, its faces the difficult side-effect that the app is no longer compatible with older smartphones.”
“This is likely to disproportionally impact the long-tail of its users, particularly in growth markets where there is a high proportion of older devices.” Ben Wood added.
